Description
Growth restriction is a common problem in children with CF, and may have implications on lung health and overall survival. A focus on body mass index has long overlooked inadequacies in linear growth in CF. Linear growth is affected by many systems and problems are not simply due to nutritional intake. This session will feature four key disciplines in the understanding of growth in CF: nutrition, gastroenterology, endocrinology, and pulmonology.
Learning Objectives:
- Review the significance of BMI and summarize the nutritional needs of a growing child with CF.
- Describe the contributions of gastrointestinal and endocrine pathology on linear growth.
- Discuss the significance of linear growth and height on lung health.
