Description
There is significant variation in CF disease presentation between patients independent of CFTR mutation. To better understand the genetic contribution of this variation, this session will provide an update on the identification of genetic modifiers in CF lung disease, diabetes and meconium ileus. The biological implications of these modifiers to disease presentation and potential therapy will be discussed.
Educational Objectives:
- Relate genetic modifiers of CF to the pathogenesis of CF complications and related diseases in the general population.
- Describe genes and mechanisms thought to be important to CF lung disease, diabetes, and meconium ileus.
- Compare the approaches taken to discover new modifier genes with those to understand the mechanisms of identified modifier genes.
