W06: INF/MIC: Pathogenesis of Airway Infection

Oct 27, 2016 9:45am ‐ Oct 27, 2016 11:05am

Standard: $49.99

This workshop will provide attendees an overview of research submitted as abstracts pertaining to pathogenesis of infection in CF. Topics relate to the intersection of microbial virulence and the host immune response that modulate the disease process. Approaches utilize a spectrum of in vitro, in vivo, animal models, and clinical/human subjects strategies.

Educational Objectives:
  • Identify pathogenic mechanisms employed by bacteria and viruses to circumvent or exploit host defense mechanisms in the CF airway.
  • Summarize the challenges of antimicrobial therapeutics in CF and new strategies to circumvent these.
  • Describe how new technologies are furthering understanding of transmission and persistence of CF airway microbes.
