31st Annual North American Cystic Fibrosis Conference

S17 - S17: CLIN: Health Care Reform: What's Happening & What Does It Mean for People with CF?

Nov 4, 2017 2:30pm ‐ Nov 4, 2017 3:55pm

Description

The cystic fibrosis care model is transforming in response to recent advances in CFTR therapies as well as broader patient needs. To ensure that all people with CF have access to the best available treatments, the current and future challenge will be working toward a payment system that supports coverage of high-quality, multidisciplinary team-based care delivered by CF clinicians. Uncertainty and instability in the health care system impose additional complexity and concern. This symposium will address how public and private payers, patients, clinicians, and researchers can develop and implement evidence-based policies in a politically and economically challenging environment.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Describe the current health care landscape and potential changes to health insurance that would impact people with cystic fibrosis.
  2. Describe the shift from volume-based payment for drugs and services to value-based payment in the context of cystic fibrosis care.
  3. Discuss how clinical data is used by payers in making coverage decisions.
