Description

This session will focus on the early development of lung infection and host inflammatory response and the impact on clinical outcomes in cystic fibrosis (CF). Speakers will address issues including bacterial and viral infections, early disruption in microbial communities, inflammation and structural injury, as well as provide updates from large, longitudinal clinical studies of young children with CF.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Summarize the knowledge on microbial colonization of the lower airways in young children
  2. Discuss the impact of early infection on the outcome of children with cystic fibrosis
  3. Evaluate the importance of early screening for respiratory infections and inflammation
