31st Annual North American Cystic Fibrosis Conference

S21 - S21: PT&RT: PT/RT Management of Special Populations in CF

Nov 4, 2017 2:30pm ‐ Nov 4, 2017 3:55pm

Description

The individual with cystic fibrosis is challenged with a variety of health conditions that result from this genetic defect. In an effort to optimize well-being in this population, it is vital that physical and respiratory therapists are knowledgeable about the effects of these conditions. This session will consider the effects of airway clearance therapies and exercise on: hemoptysis, sleep disorders, bone health, and nutrition.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Propose best practices for physical activity and airway clearance based upon the current Pulmonary Guidelines for the treatment of hemoptysis.
  2. Identify sleep disorders associated with CF, and describe appropriate diagnostic testing and treatment for these conditions.
  3. Evaluate the effect of nutritional status and bone health on physical activity and airway clearance therapies for individuals with CF.
