Dr Valerie Waters is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Toronto. She has been a full time staff physician in the Division of Infectious Diseases and is the infectious diseases consultant for the cystic fibrosis (CF) clinic at the Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto, since 2005. She is also Senior Associate Scientist with the Research Institute at the Hospital for Sick Children. Dr Waters received her MD from McGill University, Montreal and did her pediatric residency at the Hospital for Sick Children. She then did her pediatric infectious diseases fellowship at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center, New York. She also obtained a Masters in biostatistics from Columbia University, New York during her fellowship. Dr Waters' primary research focus is the diagnosis and management of multi-drug resistant pathogens in CF and biofilm antimicrobial susceptibility testing. She also studies the clinical impact of pulmonary exacerbations in CF and the role of the pulmonary microbiome in CF. She is the PI clinical trials of new antimicrobials in CF patients and for a national team grant on the role of clonal P. aeruginosa in Canadian CF patients.
