Melanie Sue Collins, MD graduated from the University of the Connecticut School of Medicine in 2002 after completing her undergraduate work in physiology/neurobiology (BS) and piano (BA) at the University of Connecticut in Storrs. She trained in pediatrics and pediatric pulmonology at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine and Connecticut Children's Medical Center in Hartford, CT. Dr. Collins joined the Pediatric Pulmonary Division at the University of Connecticut in 2008 where is she currently an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics. She is also a Pediatric Pulmonologist at Connecticut Children's Medical Center in Hartford, CT. Since 2008 she has been the Associate Director of the Central Connecticut Cystic Fibrosis Center's Pediatric Program which is associated with these institutions and Hartford Hospital. Dr. Collins is director of the Cystic Fibrosis Newborn Screening Program at the University of Connecticut and a member of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF) Special Interest Group on newborn screening.Current research interests include optimizing newborn screening for cystic fibrosis, cystic fibrosis related sinus disease and appropriate disinfection of respiratory equipment.
