John Van Drie is a 30-year veteran of drug discovery, experienced as an entrepreneur, an executive, and as a scientist. As a scientist in industrial drug discovery research, he has contributed to the discovery of three marketed drugs. As an entrepreneur, he has assisted in the launching of multiple startups. He has worked at Pharmacia, Vertex, and the Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research, where he led the group in Computer-Aided Drug Discovery (CADD). He is an internationally-recognized leader in CADD, and a pioneer in the in silico technology of virtual screening. He was Chair of the 2003 Gordon Conference in CADD, and has served on numerous NIH study sections, most recently Computational Biology. He is currently an independent consultant, President of Van Drie Research LLC.
He studied theoretical chemistry with W. A. Goddard at Caltech as a National Science Foundation Fellow, and continued those studies as a Belgian-American Foundation Fellow at the Universite Libre de Bruxelles with Nobel Laureate I. Prigogine.
