I am currently the Ruth Harrell Professor of Medical Research at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and the Senior Scientific Advisor at the CFF Laboratory in Lexington, MA. I have worked on understanding the basic defects in CFTR that cause CF and means of reversing them for nearly thirty years: First at Johns Hopkins University and for the past twenty four years in Dallas. Our early work focused on the structure function and folding of CFTR. More recently we have been working to develop new model systems and to utilize them to establish theratypes for a large number of disease causing CFTR variants. The work in the laboratory has been carried out by a cadre of talented and dedicated students, technicians and fellows and has enjoyed continuously support from the NIH, the CFF, and other foundations.
