Shruti Sasaki is a postdoctoral fellow at Ionis Pharmaceuticals. Her primary research interests are mechanisms of translational control and how they contribute to human disease. Shruti received her B.S. in Chemical Biology at the University of California, Berkeley, where she worked collaboratively in Jennifer Doudna’s lab to determine the structure and function of the internal ribosome entry site (IRES) that drives translation of the Hepatitis C viral RNA. She completed her Ph.D. in Biochemistry at the University of Wisconsin–Madison under the mentorship of Marv Wickens. Her graduate work focused on elucidating a novel mechanism of translation repression utilized by miRNAs and RNA-binding proteins, involving the role of protein interactions with the CCR4-NOT complex. At Ionis, Shruti is working toward potential therapies for Cystic Fibrosis by using antisense oligonucleotide-mediated upregulation of CFTR protein expression.
