David C. Young, Pharm.D. Professor of Pharmacotherapy (Clinical) University of Utah College of Pharmacy Intermountain Cystic Fibrosis Adult Center Clinical Pharmacist Biographical Sketch David Young received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Idaho State University 1995, and completed a Specialty Residency in Ambulatory Care at the Family Practice Residency of Idaho and Idaho State University in 1996. Upon completing his residency, Dr. Young was hired by the University of Utah Hospitals & Clinics as a clinical pharmacist in Family and Internal Medicine and was appointed an Adjunct faculty member at the University of Utah College of Pharmacy. In 1998, Dr. Young accepted a full time faculty position at the University of Utah College of Pharmacy in the Department of Pharmacotherapy as an Assistant Professor (Clinical). Dr. Young was promoted to an Associate Professor (Clinical) in 2004 and Professor (Clinical) in 2013. Dr. Young served as Vice Chair of the Department of Pharmacotherapy from 2009-2014. Dr. Young is the clinical pharmacist at the Intermountain Cystic Fibrosis Adult Center and Utah Adult Asthma Center at the University of Utah Hospitals & Clinics. Dr. Young is involved with clinical research in the area(s) of cystic fibrosis, asthma, and gastroesophogeal reflux. Dr. Young was appointed to the North American Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF) Annual Meeting Planning Committee in 2011 and was named to Co-director of the North American Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Pharmacist Mentorship Program in 2012. Dr. Young was appointed to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Strategic Investment Committee in 2015. Dr. Young was appointed and named as the Chairman of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation CF Pharmacist RFA Grant Review Committee in 2016. Dr. Young was served as a member of the Utah Board of Pharmacy from 2007-2015. Dr. Young served as the Chairman of the Board of Pharmacy from 2012-2014. Dr. Young was appointed a member of the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy Multistate Jurisprudence Review Committee (MRC) in 2011. Dr. Young was appointed a member of the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy Advisory Committee on Examinations (ACE) in 2013. Dr. Young was named as the Chairman of the ACE Committee in 2014. Dr. Young is a member of the Utah Department of Health's Asthma Task Force Committee. Dr. Young is the member of the Awards & Financial Aid Committee and faculty advisor for the Utah Student Pharmacists Association at the University of Utah College of Pharmacy. He is a member of ASHP, APhA, USHP, UPhA, and AACP. Dr. Young has given one hundred presentations at international, national, regional, and local professional meetings. Dr. Young has 27 publications in peer-reviewed journals, one book chapter, one copyright, and is referenced in Lexicomp. Dr. Young teaches pulmonary medicine and is the course master for the Foundations of Patient Centered Care course at the University of Utah College of Pharmacy. Dr. Young teaches pulmonary and gastrointestinal medicine in the Physician Assistants and School of Medicine program at the University of Utah. Dr. Young was named the Teacher of the Year for the 1st professional year class in 2014. Dr. Young received the Utah Pharmacists Association (UPhA) Generation Rx Award in 2013. Dr. Young was named the Teacher of the Year for the 4th professional year class AND Preceptor of the Year in 2011. Dr. Young was named the Teacher of the Year for the 2nd professional year class in 2010. Previously, Dr. Young was named the Outstanding Teacher of the Year by the Utah Physician Assistant Program in 2006 and 2003. Dr. Young received the University of Utah College of Pharmacy Distinguished Teaching Award in 2001. Dr. Young is an ten time nominee for Teacher of the Year and five time nominee for Preceptor of the Year at the University of Utah College of Pharmacy.
