Assistant Professor

I am a pediatric nephrologist working in the area of drug discovery for gastrointestinal and renal diseases, including CF-associated gastrointestinal hyposecretion and related problems. My main area of interest is epithelial ion transport and its modulation for treatment of gastrointestinal and renal diseases. I am experienced in small molecule drug discovery, pharmacokinetics experiments in animals, and testing of epithelial ion transport modulators in various disease models for preclinical development. My recent work includes the first demonstration of the diuretic effect of a urea transporter inhibitor in animals, discovery of pendrin inhibitors as novel diuretics, discovery of CFTR activators as novel laxatives for treatment of constipation, preclinical development of CFTR inhibitors for secretory diarrhea, and demonstrating efficacy of DRA inhibitors for treatment of constipation.
