Pierre-Regis Burgel M.D., Ph.D.
Pierre-Régis Burgel is currently Professor of Respiratory Medicine at Paris Descartes University in Paris, France, where he is also a senior researcher in the Pathophysiology of Cystic Fibrosis Laboratory. Professor Burgel is a senior consultant at the Respiratory Medicine Department of Cochin Hospital in Paris.Professor Burgel completed his medical training at the University of Paris, School of Medicine in 1999. After a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of California in San Francisco (USA) (1999-2001), he obtained a PhD in respiratory cell biology at the University of Paris. His main research interests include cystic fibrosis in adults, COPD phenotypes, and chronic bacterial infection in COPD and cystic fibrosis. He has published over 100 articles in peer reviewed journals in these areas of lung disease.Professor Burgel is a member of several professional societies, including the American Thoracic Society, the European Respiratory Society, the European Cystic Fibrosis Society, and the Société de Pneumologie de Langue Francaise. He is also a member of the Editorial Board of several peer-reviewed journals including the European Respiratory Journal, the COPD journal and the Revue Française des Maladies Respiratoires. He is the scientific secretary of the French collaborative group INITIATIVES BPCO, which is dedicated to identification of clinically relevant COPD phenotypes and member of the French Council for Cystic Fibrosis.
