Brian Kocak B.S.
Brian Kocak is a first-year medical student at the University of Pittsburgh working under the mentorship of Dr. Jennifer Bomberger. He first joined Dr. Bomberger's lab as an undergraduate at the University of Pittsburgh where he studied nitrosative stress in Pseudomonas aeruginosa and received a competitive undergraduate research fellowship for his work here. Brian's current research interests revolve around host-pathogen interactions, focusing on how respiratory virus modulates airway epithelium biology. He is specifically interested in the host immunometabolic response to respiratory virus and how bacteria can profit off disruption of normal host metabolism. Brian's long-term interests are in pulmonary and critical care medicine, and he hopes to become a physician-scientist in academic medicine.
