Dr. Guimbellot received her M.D. and Ph.D. from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2008. She completed pediatric residency at Columbia University Medical Center in New York, and pediatric pulmonology fellowship at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she began to develop a program in in vitro models of airway epithelia for predictive efficacy of CFTR modulators in children with cystic fibrosis. At the conclusion of fellowship training, Dr. Guimbellot accepted a position at the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2015. She is currently continuing to develop her research program in predictive models for CFTR modulator efficacy, including primary epithelial cell cultures derived from patient specimens, as well as the incorporation of pharmacometric analysis in the development of biomarkers and precision medicine. Dr. Guimbellot also serves as a cystic fibrosis clinician, providing care for children with cystic fibrosis in the Cystic Fibrosis Center of the Children's of Alabama, as well as general pediatric pulmonary care in both the inpatient and outpatient setting.
