Infection and Inflammation and alterations in CF host immunity has been the focus of my work since fellowship. The specific interest in how deficient activity of CFTR may alter the physiological state in the lung along with deficient immune cell function has been of specific interest. Utilizing innovative in vivo murine models of infection we have been pursuing mechanisms impacting defective resolution of infection and inflammation is CF. We have also been utilizing these models to explore the potential of mesenchymal stem cells, as a new therapeutic approach as well as sharing the model as a resource for investigating anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial therapeutic testing.
