Tom Harris is a pediatric pulmonologist at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). He completed residency training at Johns Hopkins University and fellowship training at the University of North Carolina. His research interest focuses on mechanisms that underlie disease progression and identification of novel therapeutic targets intended to improve health and prognosis among individuals with cystic fibrosis (CF). His laboratory currently investigates the roles of TGF-beta and myofibroblast pathobiology in lung remodeling in CF. In addition to his basic science research, Dr. Harris serves as a lead pediatric investigator for the CF Foundation Therapeutic Development Network (CFF-TDN) Core group at UAB and is the site PI for a number of CFF-TDN and industry-sponsored multi-institutional clinical trials. His research activities have been recognized and supported by both the NIH (NICHD K12 Research Career Development Award) and CFF (Shwachman Clinical Investigator Award).
