Marieke Verkleij, PhD, a psychologist and cognitive behavioral therapist specialized in pediatric pulmonology, is a member of the CF team and department of medical psychology at VU University Medical Center in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Dr. Verkleij's doctoral dissertation research was supported by the European Asthma and Allergy Center in Davos, Switzerland, and focused on screening and treatment of psychosocial problems including anxiety and depression in patents with a chronic lung disease. Dr. Verkleij has investigated the referral pathways for patients with CF after screening for anxiety and depression at the VUMC. Dr. Verkleij is currently involved in developing the new Dutch Quality of Care Standard for CF. Dr. Verkleij is member of the ECFS Mental Health Working Group and she serves as Country Captain promoting implementation of the CFF/ECFS guidelines in the Netherlands. In close collaboration with dr. Georgiopoulos and dr. Friedman (USA) she is now developing a web-based cognitive behavioral therapy program to prevent patients with CF for anxiety and depression.
