Michael R. Narkewicz, MD, earned his medical degree from the University of Vermont in 1983. He completed his Pediatric Residency training at the University of Colorado School of Medicine in 1986. In 1989, he completed his Fellowship in Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, which also included two years of research as a Pediatric Scientist Training Program Fellow in Meudon-Bellevue, France. Dr. Narkewicz joined the faculty of the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Colorado School of Medicine and Children's Hospital Colorado in 1989. He was appointed Professor of Pediatrics in 2003. He has served as Medical Director of the Pediatric Liver Center and Liver Transplantation Program at The Children's Hospital since 1998, as Director of the Fellowship Program in Pediatric Gastroenterology since 2005 and as the Director of Clinical Services in Pediatric Gastroenterology from 2006-2011. From 2006 to 2008 he served as President of The Children's Hospital Medical Board. He is currently the Pediatric Services Associate Clinical Director/Associate Dean for Pediatric Clinical Affairs Dr. Narkewicz is nationally recognized for his expertise in pediatric hepatology and liver transplantation. His research interests include clinical studies in children with biliary atresia, clinical trials and transmission in chronic viral hepatitis, hematologic and immunologic complications following pediatric liver transplantation, improved diagnosis and treatment of cystic fibrosis-associated liver disease, and clinical trials in acute liver failure. Dr. Narkewicz is Chair of the Cystic Fibrosis Liver Disease Network. Dr. Narkewicz has served as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition, as well as a reviewer for multiple medical journals. He has published over 95 journal articles and book chapters and regularly presents both locally and nationally. Dr. Narkewicz is actively involved in many national and local organizations, including the American Liver Foundation Medical Advisory Board, as Chair of the Training and Education Committee and as a member of the Chronic Viral Hepatitis Guidelines Committee for the North American Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Clinical Research Committee and Co-Chair of the Children's Digestive Health and Nutrition Foundation Viral Hepatitis Campaign. He serves on the Senior Steering Committee for the Pediatric Acute Liver Failure Trial, Grant Steering Committee and Scientific Advisory Board, Studies in Pediatric Liver Transplantation (SPLIT) NIDDK, 2004-2009, Chair of the Steering Committee and Principal Investigator of the Cystic Fibrosis Liver Disease Network and Chaired the Evaluation Committee for the Pediatric Scientist Development Program for 6 years. He is the recipient of numerous research grants from the NIH and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Dr. Narkewicz was honored with the Hewit-Andrews Chair in Pediatric Liver Disease in 2000. He has been listed as one of the Best Doctors in America since 1996 and as one of 5280 Magazine's Top Doctors in Denver since 2005. Dr. Narkewicz is board certified in Pediatrics and subspecialty certified in Pediatric Gastroenterology and in Pediatric Transplant Hepatology.
