Professor of Clinical Pharmacy

Professor Michael Tunney is a Chair in Clinical Pharmacy and Director of Research at the School of Pharmacy, Queen's University Belfast. Professor Tunney's translational airway microbiome research programme is focused on the improved detection and treatment of polymicrobial infection in patients with respiratory diseases such as Cystic Fibrosis (CF), non-CF bronchiectasis and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. His research group are examining how bacteria contribute to the pathophysiology of infection and inflammation in these conditions and the molecular basis of antibiotic resistance amongst these bacteria. Professor Tunney has published over 100 research papers in peer-reviewed journals and serves on a number of scientific advisory and editorial boards.
