Burkhard Tümmler's main fields of research and expertise are the genetics, molecular pathology, infectiology and clinic of cystic fibrosis and the comparative and functional genomics of pseudomonads. Recent achievements were (i) novel methods to dissect the metagenome of viruses, bacteria and fungi in human airways, (ii) the elucidation of the Pseudomonas aeruginosa pangenome, (iii) the description of novel modes of pathogenicity of P. aeruginosa and (iv) the discovery of a novel CFTR-associated disorder. He has more than 320 publications in international peer-reviewed scientific journals (h-index 77).
